Thea Matthews
Thea Matthews is a Brooklyn-based poet and educator of African and Indigenous Mexican heritage. Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Thea is the author of Unearth [The Flowers]; and has work in The New Republic, The Rumpus, Foglifter, and others. She earned her BA in Sociology at UC Berkeley where she studied and taught June Jordan’s program Poetry For The People. Thea is also a black feminist, a survivor of CSA, and an activist. Through her work, she interrogates the complexities of humanity, grief, and resiliency. Currently, she is an MFA Poetry candidate at New York University.
