The Navajo Breastfeeding Coalition

The Navajo Breastfeeding Coalition (NBC) has been in existence since 2008. We began as a small community group, originating out of Ft. Defiance, Arizona. When we began the initiative that initially passed the Navajo Nation Healthy Start Act of 2008, our small community group expanded into what is presently the Navajo Breastfeeding Coalition. Currently, we have a team of 30 coalition members. NBC is committed to revitalizing and restoring traditional birthing practices and addressing historical and current traumas by providing unbiased support through our direct service lactation and doula support program that provides culturally relevant practices for birthing families. We also provide western lactation and doula support by request.
