The California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project
The California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project, or CHIRP, is a 501c3 charitable non-profit organization whose mission is: to preserve, protect and perpetuate Nisenan culture. The organization is guided by the Tribal Council of the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe and CHIRP’s Executive Director is Nisenan herself as well as spokesperson for the Tribe. CHIRP supports the Tribe through a plethora of programs and projects including but not limited to; public education and event production, research and documentation, cultural revitalization projects, human and environmental health, sacred site protection, fundraising, advocacy and holds the campaign to restore the Tribe’s Federal Recognition.
