Indigenous Leadership Institute

The Indigenous Leadership institute is committed to providing leadership development and capacity building for Alaska Native peoples in a changing world. We approach the environmental, political, and social-economic challenges our people and communities are facing in a holistic manner, centering on the well-being and capacity of local leadership to effectively address the issues.

Indigenous communities in Alaska, while unique in their geographic and cultural heritage, face similar challenges. The Leadership Institute builds and supports a community among young Alaskan Native leaders who are committed to personal and community healing. We seek creative and innovative approaches to revitalizing and sustaining our cultures, languages, and ways of living utilizing traditional knowledge and modern technology. The Arctic Institute brings together Alaska Native people from remote regions of the state who may otherwise not have the opportunity to create the crucial relationships necessary for continued work in making their respective communities healthier and more sustainable.

Our organization serves the statewide Alaska Native community. We focus on young adults and youth, while incorporating the participation and support of elders who are the traditional knowledge bearers of our communities.
