Louise Stern grew up in Fremont, California, and is the fourth generation of her family to be born deaf. She came to London in 2002, where she is an artist. Her work is made around ideas of language, communication and isolation and has been shown in Geneva, Madrid, Albania, London, New York and other places. Chattering: Stories, her first book, was published by Granta Books in June 2010. She is currently headed to Mexico to write her next book.
